Justice Stevens is going to retire in Obama's time. Considering how disappointing Sotomayor has been, I'd be remiss to say this is good, exciting or wise of the aging SC Justice.

The Doctor Is In... Sort Of

A lot has been said about Healthcare and the proponents of reform, especially over the last few weeks. I think James Clyburn said it best after being spat on. It sums up why people have the audacity to call Sen. Barny Frank a faggot and Sen. John Lewis a nigger. Why back in September a white Senator from South Carolina yelled "you lie" to our nations highest official, who happens to be black.

"A lot of us have been saying for a long time that much of this, much of this is not about health care a all. And I think a lot of those people today demonstrated that this is not about health care... it is about trying to extend a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful."

It's no secret that racism is a systemic problem. People fought, and arguably still are, long and hard gain political and social power the constitution did not extend to them. If we should learn anything from this reform and debate, it's that at the heart of this reform debate lays the same hatred and fear that kept minorities disenfranchised and marginalized for the better part of our nation's history. The same ignorance and wickedness. It's all too evident in the actions of self-proclaimed modern day revolutionaries.

And sadly, seeing a fake Party getting away with that sort of thing, and even being praised and lauded for their revolt in the name of pseudo-morality and defense of diluted democracy, is frightening, and makes me think they're winning something that shouldn't even be a battle. Sure, reform and reconciliation went through the house. But without a public option, it's a small success in a long line of the big abusing the small, the group crushing the few, powerful and secure overwhelming and suffocating the sick.

Glad to see you got the ball moving Obama. I just don't think it's enough, and can't shake the feeling that you folded to vile and hateful people.

New Answer to 'Why PD'

I took a class awhile ago called "Literature and the Occult". We covered potent topics like Plato's mirror, Schrodinger's box, Jung's archetypes, Bram Stroker's Dracula, Cristobal, and of course, Messages from Michael (of course, of course). My professor was a brilliant woman who also led me through Literature of the South and Late Shakespeare, and wrote me what I can only assume was a fantastic LOR. She studied earned her PhD at Cal, and still knew some people there who had led the forefront in and were still deeply involved in studying the essences and spirituality of Michael. I don't feel like explaining it, read about it there.

These Occult specialists were allegedly able to gather your essence - possibly a past life if your essence was strong enough- just by knowing your first, last and middle names, along with your DOB. Sounds like a ponzi scheme, right? Well, the small class trusted the professor and her cohorts enough to see what this stuff was all about. We were familiar with the material, had already discussed which Goal, Modes, and Attitudes we thought applied, so why not see if those checked out?

Everyone's pre-conception about themselves was eerily spot on. Being the skeptic I am, I wrote that off as quasi-psuedo-hackery.

But then I read my past life. I was the only one in the class who had one:

You were once the bold leader of an audacious band of thieves, and you now make an effort to avoid that lifestyle, possibly even attempting to atone for the recklessness of your actions.

That's my new "Why PD" answer: "I was a thief in a past life, so a lawyer in this one felt right".
